“I can’t possibly thank Christi enough. My high level summary is that within six months of working with Christi, our business went from facing a bankruptcy situation with crippling debt to a business that was growing and profitable.
The more detailed description is that my business was suffering due to a challenging life situation at the time. We were under water in debt with multiple creditors and the IRS was withdrawing funds from our bank account as soon as the funds went in (and ready to shut us down). To top it off we were being evicted. We were very close to closing the business. I hired Christi to act as CEO with the hope that she could work her magic (I know she has helped out other businesses) and do whatever she could for us. Even though I was optimistic about Christi, it was hard for me to envision success at that point. But, Christi immediately started negotiating with our landlord, working with the creditors to restructure the debt, and communicating with the IRS to stop the withdrawals.
Christi took control of the finances like a bulldog with a bone. Not a penny could be spent and not an order could be placed without being looked at with a fine tooth comb. As a result, new financial policies were immediately implemented to help cash flow (like requiring deposits on parts and service orders). Christi also set up a structure for managing finances, operations, and employee matters. For example, Quickbooks was implemented to track sales/taxes/vendors/expenses, and new policies were developed to track and manage customer requests, sales, orders, inventory, and personnel matters. She was always thinking of different angles to get the job done, like when she struck a deal with the tax preparer to pay for his services in exchange for an older model motor scooter that hadn’t sold and was taking up valuable space in the store front.
The results paid off. In short order, Christi had negotiated new payment terms with all of the creditors, convinced the landlord to withdraw the eviction, and stopped the IRS from automatically taking funds out of our accounts while working with them toward resolution. The financial policies she implemented quickly improved cash flow and under her direction we were able to start paying bills on time, meet payroll and rent on time, and resume things like advertising. Since the bills were being paid on time, we were no longer incurring skyrocket interest charges from late payments. The money saved helped even more with cash flow and to pay off the interest and debt owed, and going forward it was used more productively than for paying interest.
As the business stabilized, Christi hired more sales help for the store front and additional mechanics to work in the shop. New services were added, such as winter storage options, to help even out the slow revenue season. There wasn’t any part of the business she didn’t get involved with and effect changes for improvement.
Christi’s leadership was remarkable. In addition to taking care of the nuts and bolts of the business, she was communicative with the employees, setting direction and expectations so everyone was on the same page. Christi’s approach is more direct than most people (you always know where she is coming from), but she respects people and values their input. She empowered them to do their best. I trust her ability to get the job done and I trust her judgment. She considers the facts, the situation, employees, customers, vendors, etc., and then figures out the options and best approaches. When I was able to lead the charge again, my business had stability and forward momentum. I was able to move the business to a better location with a bigger store front and a bigger service shop to accommodate more customers, new services, and additional retail products. Because of Christi’s leadership, negotiation skills, and tenacity, my business was literally saved.”
